Online privacy has been a growing issue over the last few years, but a new practice of employers requesting access to potential and even current employees’ social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) has brought it to the forefront. It has become such a hot topic that Maryland is on the cusp of becoming the first state to have a bill on the books that would prohibit such practices.
Facebook itself even threatened to take legal action against employers asking for access to its accounts since it violates its user agreement.
